Call for Submissions for The Worcester Review Jazz Issue, Fall 2013

Each issue of The Worcester Review includes a feature section on a person or topic with particular relevance to the Worcester area. Inspired by Cole Porter, who graduated from Worcester Academy, the 2013 feature will be Jazz-themed. We are looking for scholarly Jazz-themed creative works including essays, poetry, visual arts, and short fiction. All aspects of the musical genre will be considered.

GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Beginning in 2012, THE WORCESTER REVIEW will accept online submissions during our set reading periods through the
Tell it Slant ( https://tellitslant.com/home/index  ) submission program. We will also continue to accept snail mail submissions year round. Please follow these guidelines for submissions:

For online submissions:

POETRY: 3-5 poems, uploaded as a single file. Submit online only once per reading period.

FICTION: Short stories or excerpts up to 4,000 words. Submit up to two stories/excerpts per reading period, but they must be submitted as separate files.

PHOTOGRAPHY & GRAPHIC ART: Submit 1 - 3 images electronically at 300 dpi format. Art will be reproduced in black and white.
All submissions must be accompanied by brief biography and functional Email address.
Because we are slow to respond, we encourage simultaneous submissions. Please notify us promptly if your work has been accepted elsewhere.


For traditional mail submissions:

All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter with a brief biography, materials submitted, and return address. Include SASE or Email address for response. Manuscripts will be recycled unless accompanied by SASE with sufficient postage.


POETRY: Submit 3-5 poems, typed on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. No onion skin please. The author's name should appear in the upper left-hand corner of each page.

FICTION: Submit typed, double spaced, stories or excerpts (4,000 word maximum) on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. No onion skin please. Author's name should appear in the upper left-hand corner of each page. Pages must be numbered in sequence.

LITERARY ARTICLES: Submit scholarly and critical articles with a New England connection (10 typed, double-spaced pages maximum using MLA guidelines) on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. No onion skin.

ART and PHOTOGRAPHY: Submit 1 - 3 images electronically at 300 dpi format.  Art will be reproduced in black and white.

THE WORCESTER REVIEW reserves First Publication Rights for all submissions chosen for publication. Payment will be two copies upon publication plus subscription and (when budget allows) a small stipend.
