Volume 10

This issue of THE WORCESTER REVIEW showcases a little more of the growth we’ve been experiencing these past two years. First we are proud to announce that THE WORCESTER REVIEW has been honored by the reception of its first grant from The National Endowment for the Arts. The grants are given annually in recognition of quality work done by literary journals throughout the United States. Second, we are pleased to be able to add another focus to our magazine — our first critical article about poetry since we expanded to permanent semi-annual issues. We hope you will find not only a fresh understanding of Robert Frost in this piece, but also how deeply poetry reaches into the literal earth of central New England.

In addition, I’d like to use this opportunity to preview the focus of our summer issue: the exchange, translation, and publication of contemporary Chinese poets and artists. With this in mind, we have included a Chinese poem by Zhang Ziqing, head of the Foreign Language Institute at Nanjing University, both in the original and in translation, plus some original Chinese paper cuts and drawings. In our next issue, we will focus on the Chinese poets and artists working now so that you may have an idea of how poetry stands on the “other side of the globe.”
