Our contributors’ rights

The poems, stories, essays, and artwork we publish belong to the writers and artists who made them. The Worcester Review acquires first serial rights: the right to publish a work for the first time in our pages and to reproduce it on this website as part of the issue in which it appeared. Upon publication, all other rights revert to the author or artist.

This means that if you wish to reprint, anthologize, or otherwise reuse a work that first appeared in our pages, the permission you need is the author’s or artist’s — though we are always glad to help you reach them. Write to the email address in the footer of this site.

Quoting from the Review

Brief quotation for the purposes of review, criticism, teaching, or scholarship is welcome and needs no permission — that is what a literary magazine is for. We ask only that you credit the author and The Worcester Review, with the volume in which the work appeared.

Cover art and archival material

Cover artwork is reproduced by permission of the artists, who retain copyright in their work. Selections from past issues that appear in our online archive are published with the permission of, or on behalf of, their authors. If you are a past contributor and have a question or concern about work of yours appearing in the archive, please contact the editors — we will address it promptly.
